The Paddy Marketing Board has announced the formation of a new committee to review and amend the certified price of rice. The committee, chaired by Manjula Pinnalanda, includes representatives from several key institutions, such as the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute and the Institute of Post-Harvest Technology.
The committee’s primary task is to conduct an in-depth review of the application prices currently used in paddy cultivation. Following the review, the committee will determine the certified price at which rice stocks will be purchased for the upcoming season.
For reference, during the previous Yala season, the certified prices were as follows: Rs. 105 per kilogram for Nadu rice, Rs. 115 per kilogram for Samba rice, and Rs. 130 per kilogram for Keeri Samba rice.
In addition, the Paddy Marketing Board has confirmed that storage facilities for the upcoming Maha season’s harvest have already been prepared. The purchase of stock for the Maha season is expected to begin next month.
